John Cooper Challenge Snetterton 19 Oct 2003
The last event of John Cooper Challenge (JCC) 2003 was a race meet at the Snetterton circuit, Norfolk.
Apple, along with 12 other MINIs from MINI2 (plus a couple of MINI wannabes), went to cheer AndyW and Speedster, JCCers and fellow MINI2ers, who were racing. Six MINI2ers benefited from the generosity of MINI UK who kindly donated free entry tickets for this event. Also present was Racer, who had sadly to retire early from the season after a nasty crash at JCC Silverstone. ALIEN7, last year's overall JCC winner was also spotted amongst the crowd to cheer the JCCers.
Big thank you from all MINI2ers who attended goes to Mr. Robin Knight of 750 Motor Club, who organised MINI2 parade laps during the lunch break. These were greatly appreciated.
Thank you also to Deborah Overton of Brands Hatch Circuit who organised a MINI2-only parking area, even though DK et al managed to miss the designated area completely, twice!
The race was dramatic, and so was the jousting for the 2nd place in the overall championship. AndyW went into the race as No. 2 on the championship points table, only 2 points behind the leader, Dominic Yarnold. Dominic's MINI2 sprung off during the race, and AndyW finished it in 8th place. AndyW and Dominic both finished the championship equal second in points, but AndyW pipped Dominic to overall 2nd place, by having won one more 2nd place during the championship.
DK et al had been lucky enough to stay dry throughout an overcast day only to be sprayed with champagne by the enthusiastic championship winners! All in all, a grand day out! For a slide show of photos taken during the day, please click the appropriate link below.
(You can visit the race's main thread on MINI2, and visit the John Cooper website for full details of the race and information on the JCC 2003 season. For other parade lap and race photos, check out www.racedayimages.co.uk.)
This event also marked the end of MINI-meet 2003 season for Apple and DK. However, next year's MINI-meet calendar is already taking shape, and it will not be long before Apple can be spotted at MINI meets again.
