New MINI Severns
Lakes, Chew Valley, Cheddar and Glastonbury Run Sun 18 Jul 2004
Apple and DK attended a run organised by minisoopercooper of MINI2 and New MINI Severns Club fame.
Their travel-time to Bristol was longer than the entire run itself. However, the scenery, the food and above all, the company, more than made up for any disappointment that DK might have had about a run so short.
scooperman_uk of MINI2 fame, his better half, and DK stayed overnight at Bristol. They were met by minisoopercooper who kindly invited them for an jolly evening in Weston-super-Mare.
On the day of the run, after a much-needed lie-in and slow start to the day, DK met the rest of the run attendees at Carpenters Arms, a pub that had an excellent restaurant and very attentive staff. The group had had to order their food in advance, and thanks to minisoopercooper, everyone got what they had ordered with no mix-ups!
After lunch, the group set off on a route that included the beautiful areas of Lakes, Chew Valley, Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury. Being a relatively small group of only 19 cars, we managed to stay together throughout the run. There were the customary U-turns, of course, including a planned one at the bottom of Cheddar Gorge, that caused the tourists their to turn their heads in amazement! It had been intended that we stop their to have cream tea, but when we arrived, it was too crowded.
After the run, the group gathered at the Rose and Portcullis pub in Burtleigh for a post-run drink or two before Apple and DK made their way home. The journey back was horrendous, with very slow-moving traffic on M4. Apple and DK eventually arrived home shortly after 23:00h, having set off for their journey home at 17:35h.
Please visit the main thread on MINI2 for details of this event, including post run pictures, chit chat and videos (check out scooperman_uk's site for other MINI run videos).
Apple and DK would like to thank everyone who made this a very enjoyable weekend for them both! Here are a few pictures taken on the day of the run.
