South Downs Run 25 Jul 2004

The word "lush" would be a good adjective to describe the scenery of the route that took DK and Apple around South Downs for a run organised by poppet of MINI2 fame, with the help of MT1. Click here for the main thread, which includes pictures taken by the attendees during the run.

The weekend started with DK meeting a few MINI2ers for a lovely meal at the Nag's Head Hotel in Chichester, where DK and a few others were to stay the night.

The event was well attended, with only a small number of no-shows. The group started off as two sub-groups, but, owing to the volume of traffic, they very soon merged into just one large group. Thanks to poppet, MT1 and poppet's family, the group were able to stop at Oving Village Hall en masse for a lunch break, and to use its facilities. For once, DK did not bring a picnic, but was kindly treated to a yummy sandwich by poppet's family.

poppet's brother was Apple's navigator, and DK had to apologise at one point for forgetting that she was not alone, and that her passenger might not have approved of her rather spirited driving!

After lunch, the group departed for Pepworth and Arundel, and as more and more cars became hopelessly lost in one-way systems, gradually split into smaller groups. As a result, the mass parade along Bognor Sea Front was lower-key than had been intended.

Most MINIs eventually made their way to the end point at Goodwoods Racing Circuit where the run ended, but a few cars returned to the pub at Oving where their passengers had a much needed post-event de-stress drink and a quick bite to eat before going their separate ways.

Good roads, good scenery, good weather and good company made this a very enjoyable weekend indeed!

Please note that it may take some time to download all the photos before the slide show will start to run, depending on the speed of your internet connection. If the slide show does not start automatically, click "Pause Slide Show" and navigate manually using the "Previous" and "Next" links.

A MINI is not just a car - it is a way of life!

Apple says, "Yes I am bright, I was spec'ed that way!"
